It was like a bomb going off inside a cubist painting, the day The Lone Groover turned up on horseback, with his guitar slung over his shoulder like some urban guerilla. The adrenaline pumping sculptural rhythms of the city, cascaded along its ventricles to the sprawling suburbs. Euphoria swept through the market square and trumpets played triumphant. A banner stretched across the avenue read 'Soundbites and civil rights'. I wept beneath the overhanging sun.
